Ballon d’Or clause No More? United and Inter to Agree Swap Deal

Federico Dimarco and Martial: Inter Milan and Manchester United transfer news

Manchester United and Inter Milan could be set to agree on a transfer deal that could take Anthony Martial to the haven for United flops, Inter Milan; which would see defender Federico Dimarco going the other way in the January transfer window.

United and Martial set for Inter transfer in January

After 8 underwhelming years at Manchester United, Martial’s unmet Ballon d’Or clause is set to be negated, as a swap deal with Inter Milan appears on the horizon for Manchester United.

The transfer would take United’s Martial to Inter Milan for Italian international Federico Dimarco.

Inter has been somewhat of a refuge for United veterans and rejects such as Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Ashley Young, who have all had success at the San Siro.

Reports suggest that Inter would view the Frenchman as a viable backup for Argentine Lautaro Martinez.

With United’s unwillingness to extend Martial’s contract and Dimarco’s hefty £50m price tag amid Financial Fair Play scrutiny, a swap deal would be the most optimal outcome for Manchester United.

Federico Demarco is versatile and can ply his trade at left-back, left wing-back, and central midfield, giving United plenty of options for rotation. He is known for his pace, crossing ability, and powerful shot.

The Martial saga comes to an end

Martial signed for Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2015 from Monaco as the most expensive teenager at the time, for a transfer fee of £44.1m plus £14.7m in bonuses.

One of those bonuses was to be paid when Martial would win the Ballon d’Or. Safe to say that after 8 underwhelming years, that clause will be voided.

Martial has made over 250 appearances for Manchester United, scoring over 70 goals and winning the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Europa League. However, his United future appears to be all but over as Ten Hag looks to overhaul the squad in January.

With United already in crisis and prospective new owners, It may seem that the club has run out of patience for those players not contributing sufficiently to the team, with even the likes of Raphael Varane and veteran Casemiro set to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to revitalize the squad in January, as United look to capitalize on the momentum of their recent shock 2-goal comeback win against Aston Villa.
