Bruno Fernandes singles out Man Utd youngster for praise after Bayern defeat
Facundo Pellistri of Manchester United was a surprising inclusion in the starting lineup for their recent match against Bayern Munich.
This marked only his second start for the club, with his first starting appearance coming last season against Real Betis.
During the game against Bayern Munich, Pellistri seemed a bit tentative and didn’t quite have the impact that fans were hoping for from the skillful winger.
However, there is one player who believes that Pellistri made the most of his opportunity at the Allianz Arena and that he could potentially earn more starting opportunities in the future.
In an interview following the defeat with United Stand, Bruno Fernandes spoke highly of Pellistri and praised his contributions to the team.
Bruno Fernandes on Facundo Pellistri
Fernandes commended Pellistri’s dedication, hard work in training, and his overall performance in the match. He emphasized that Pellistri deserved his chance and had fulfilled the manager’s instructions well.
“Pellistri is one of the players that deserves his chance and deserves a lot of credit for everything he has done for the team,”
Fernandes said.
“He is someone who is always available, always training hard, and someone who deserves his chance.
He did well today, he did the job the manager asked him to do and we are all happy for him because he really deserves to get his chances.”
One aspect of Pellistri’s performance that stood out was his willingness to make sacrifices for the team’s defensive structure.
Alongside Marcus Rashford, he played a role in defending the wide areas effectively, and this defensive effort contributed to Manchester United’s early control of the game and their ability to contain Bayern Munich.
Even after conceding a goal, both Pellistri and Rashford continued to track back and put in a defensive shift. This raises the question of whether Pellistri should be given more opportunities to start.
With Manchester United set to face Burnley in their upcoming match, this could be an opportunity for Pellistri to showcase his attacking abilities and make a case for being the preferred choice as the starting right-winger, especially in the eyes of manager Erik Ten Hag.
