Galatasaray manager explains one Manchester United star he told his team to target, it's really worrying now

Okan Buruk, the manager of Galatasaray, carefully observed how Crystal Palace defeated Manchester United over the weekend.

The Red Devils suffered a 3-2 defeat at home against Galatasaray, marking their second consecutive home loss following a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

While Galatasaray deserves credit for their performance and resilience in coming back from behind twice, it’s evident that the 20-time English Champions let this game slip away.

For Okan Buruk, this victory is especially significant, as it marks his second triumph over Manchester United.

He previously led Istanbul Basaksehir to victory against them in 2020, but this time, he secured the win at Old Trafford.

Okan Buruk comments after Galatasaray defeated Manchester United

In his post-match remarks, Buruk expressed his joy at a Turkish team defeating an English team on English soil, describing the 3-2 victory as a historic moment for both Galatasaray and Turkish football.

Delving into the tactical aspect of the win, he revealed that he instructed his midfield to double up on Casemiro, aiming to stifle Manchester United’s play.

He explained that the combination of Torreira and Kaan Ayhan was instrumental in applying pressure on Casemiro and providing defensive support.

“We wanted to put pressure on Casemiro in the midfield with Torreira. Kaan (Ayhan) is a player who plays well defensively and without the ball. We wanted to use both together. I think Kaan performed a very important task. He gave support.”

Said Buruk.

This recurring trend of opponents targeting Casemiro as a vulnerability in Manchester United’s midfield is a cause for concern.

Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace’s manager, had also identified Casemiro as a player they could exploit after their victory over United. This suggests that Casemiro needs more support in the midfield.

Sofyan Amrabat was signed to provide that support, but he has been deployed at left-back.

It’s imperative for Manchester United to address this issue promptly and find an alternative solution for the left-back position.
