Guardiola: ‘I have a high opinion on Onana’
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has shown appreciation for Manchester United‘s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, in the lead-up to the highly anticipated Manchester Derby on Sunday.
Guardiola defended Onana, who initially had a challenging start with the Red Devils.
Onana, however, delivered a remarkable performance in United’s 1-0 victory over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, making a crucial penalty save during injury time.
Guardiola emphasized that Onana will require some time to adjust to the English Premier League, but he holds a high regard for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper.
He mentioned that he had met Onana in Amsterdam and had heard positive feedback about him from a common friend. Guardiola acknowledged Onana’s exceptional skills and praised his abilities.

In Guardiola’s view, it’s essential to focus on a player’s strengths rather than their weaknesses.
He pointed out that Onana’s last-minute penalty save provided a significant mental boost to United, helping them remain in contention for the last 16 of the Champions League.
“I remember we have a common friend who spoke very highly of him but personally I met him in Amsterdam. He’s an exceptional player and now at United,”
Guardiola said, as per the Mirror.
“Everyone needs time [to adapt to PL], not just the managers but players, keepers. Everyone. Some times people are quicker but I have a high opinion of him as a keeper.
I prefer to see the strengths than the weakness they have. He saved a pen in the last minute which helped them to stay in contention to qualify for the last 16. Mentally it’s a good boost for them.”
