Man United £40m Bid for Mason Mount Rejected by Chelsea

Mason Mount choses Manchester United over Liverpool

Man United’s bid for the summer transfer window has been met with rejection, as Chelsea turned down their £40m offer for Mason Mount.

The personal terms with the player are not expected to be a problem. United’s bid falls significantly short of Chelsea’s reported asking price.

Given United’s limited budget and the need to reinforce several positions in Erik Ten Hag’s squad. It appears unlikely that a deal at that price point will be reached.

Can Mason Mount complete his move to Man United this summer?

Speculation suggests that Manchester United may explore alternative targets to bolster their squad before pre-season.

However, The Telegraph reports that the club remains confident in securing the signing of Mount and is willing to be patient if necessary.

Mount has already declined two contract offers from Stamford Bridge, expressing his desire to join Man United.

With only a year left on his current deal, Chelsea faces the risk of losing the 24-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

What the sources claim

The Telegraph claimed that a £40m offer was been submitted. But Chelsea have rejected United’s opening offer, considering it substantially lower than their reported asking price.

As reported by The Peoples Person, Chelsea are demanding £70m for their academy graduate. With some journalists claim that they also want an additional £10m in performance-related add-ons.

Man United seems content to let negotiations unfold during the current transfer window. Hoping that Chelsea will eventually lower their price.

Journalist Sam Pilger suggests that the opening bid of £40m is part of a negotiation process that could result in a sale price “just north of £50m,” a figure that would satisfy United.

From a financial perspective, this strategy aligns with United’s need to allocate its budget wisely this summer. However, manager Erik Ten Hag would prefer to have more time to work with incoming signings during the pre-season for seamless integration into the squad next season.

As Ten Hag remains determined to secure the services of Mason Mount, it appears that this transfer saga will continue rather than reach a swift resolution as initially anticipated.
