Man United boss to drop Marcus Rashford for clash against Brentford

Reports suggest that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is considering benching Marcus Rashford for their upcoming Premier League match against Brentford.

Despite Rashford’s successful previous season, where he scored 30 goals and helped the team secure the EFL Cup and Champions League qualification, the 25-year-old has struggled in the current 2023-24 season, scoring just one goal in nine matches across all competitions.

While Rashford did provide an assist in the recent Champions League match against Galatasaray, where United lost 3-2, Ten Hag is reportedly contemplating starting either Anthony Martial or Alejandro Garnacho on the left wing instead of Rashford for the Brentford game.

Rashford has only managed to find the net once in seven Premier League matches this season.

Rashford was substituted in the 67th minute during the Galatasaray game, with Garnacho taking his place, and a week ago, Martial replaced him during a league match against Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag acknowledged that Rashford is going through a difficult period but expressed confidence that the player would regain his form, stating,

“It’s normal that you are not always right in the same levels. Everyone knows his qualities. We’ve seen he is getting in good positions.

He is struggling but it will pass. Everyone at United backs him, the whole team supports him and believes in him. I am sure with that it will change.

Strikers, when they don’t score for a moment, they need one goal, then they step over. It will come. The momentum will come and he will be on fire.”

Currently, Manchester United are in 10th place in the Premier League standings after losing four of their first seven games, marking their worst start to a league campaign in 34 years.

Additionally, they face a challenging task in the Champions League group stage after suffering consecutive losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the opening two matches.
