Mason Greenwood ‘Die’ Chants: Osasuna Fans SLAM President for Allowing Outcast to Play
Man Utd loanee Mason Greenwood has experienced no shortage of ‘die’ chants by opposition fans, and especially Osasuna fans, during his stint at Getafe.
Man Utd loanee Mason Greenwood tough reception
English international, Mason Greenwood was rescued from his Man Utd limbo with a move to Spanish club Getafe in the summer, where he has gone on to impress.
Greenwood has done so well that he has been linked to a move away from Man Utd to a host of different clubs, including Spanish titans Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, he hasn’t had the easiest reception among opposition fans, which started when he came off the bench in his debut against Osasuna in a dramatic 3-2 win, where he was targeted by the away fans -leading to a fine for Osasuna.
Greenwood experienced the same antagonisation on Sunday when the two sides met again, as the striker felt a flurry of “Greenwood, die” chants directed at him from the stands.
The same group of supporters were at it again when Getafe visited Osasuna on Sunday, with more cries of “Greenwood, die” raining down from the stands.
According to Cadena Copa, the Osasuna ultras group – Indar Gorri had urged every fan to condemn Greenwood’s presence and every move he made on the field.
They also urged supporters to condemn the decision of Javier Tebas, the La Liga president, to allow the attacker to play in Spain.
Their statement read:
“La Liga allows an arrestee accused of rape, grievous bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour to play in their competition. Once again, economic interests come ahead of the fight for a society without oppression. A RAPIST WILL PLAY IN OUR STADIUM ON SUNDAY.”

The chants might have had some sort of an effect, as Greenwood and Getafe were on the wrong side of a dramatic 3-2 scoreline after an 80′ minute winner by Jesus Areso.
What’s next for Mason Greenwood?
Despite having no footballing future in England and a bleak future in football overall, the striker has impressed for the Spanish outfit this season, scoring five and assisting four in 19 appearances overall.
The expectation is that the new owners at Man Utd are likely to want to avoid a PR headache when it comes to Greenwood, especially amidst their own ‘brutal’ plans for the club, and will not take the risk of re-introducing him to the club after the backlash experienced earlier in 2023.
The striker has also been linked to top Spanish clubs, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid; as the question of Greenwood’s Man Utd future lies in not if, but when and where the striker will move.
