Manchester United Eyeing Jarrad Branthwaite as Potential Successor

Jarrad Branthwaite to Manchester United

Manchester United targets Everton’s Branthwaite for centre-back reinforcement after impressive PSV loan spell for Ten Hag.

The Red Devils are reportedly eyeing Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite as a potential addition to strengthen their centre-back ranks this summer.

The 21-year-old Englishman made a positive impression during his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, catching the attention of scouts.

Under the guidance of United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, Branthwaite showcased his potential during his time in the Netherlands.

Now, the 20-time English champions are considering making a move for the talented defender, with a fee of around £20m or possibly as low as £5m-£6m speculated.

Erik ten Hag Eyes Branthwaite for Left-Sided Center-Back Role in Man United squad

Branthwaite’s performances have drawn interest from manager Erik ten Hag, who aims to find a natural fit for a left-sided center-back role at Manchester United.

While physically different from Argentine Tyrell Malacia, Branthwaite’s quality on the ball has been highly praised, impressing with his passing ability from both feet.

With an average of 3.61 progressive passes per 90 days, Branthwaite’s distribution resembles that of Martinez, whom Ten Hag previously recruited.

The Everton ace has also shown promise defensively, averaging 2.3 tackles and interceptions per game in Holland, slightly behind Martinez’s 3.2 in the Premier League.

Former Carlisle boss Steven Pressley described Branthwaite as a “terrific footballer,” earning praise from Van Nistelrooy as well.

Given Martinez’s significant influence and ball-playing prowess at United, Branthwaite appears to possess the potential to fill his shoes.

Branthwaite as a Solution to Martinez and a Future for Center Back

United’s desire to secure Branthwaite’s services aligns with the absence of Martinez due to injury, a loss felt by the team in the final stretch of the season.

Signing the promising defender could provide the necessary cover while also grooming him as a dream successor for the center-back position.

Ultimately, Manchester United’s pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite reflects their commitment to bolstering their defensive lineup.

With the potential to become a solid center-back and a skilled ball-playing presence, Branthwaite could prove to be an excellent addition to the squad, especially if he can follow in the footsteps of Martinez, who has been a standout player at Old Trafford.
