Ten Hag’s Disappointing Gamble

Coach Eric ten Hag faced challenges this season, surprising fans. The team had a tough time in the Champions League, finishing last in the group. Right now, they’re fighting for a 4th place spot, currently sitting in 6th position.

In the summer of 2022, Manchester United targeted the Brazilian winger, Antony, valued at around 25 million euros.

The coach, according to The Athletic, felt they needed an extra attacker and a left-footed winger. He got approval from higher-ups at Manchester United and pushed for Antony’s acquisition.”

Exploiting United’s Desperation in the Transfer Market

In 2022, Coach Eric ten Hag persuaded Manchester United to pay 86 million euros for Ajax winger Antony right before the transfer market closed.

Edwin van der Sar, a former Red Devil and Ajax’s CEO convinced United’s CEO Richard Arnold and Sporting Director Jon Murtough to reassess Antony’s value.

With the green light from higher-ups, Eric ten Hag secured the approval to bring the talented winger to the team.

Key figures like Chief Financial Officer Cliff Baty and Interim CEO Patrick Stewart played important roles in overseeing transfer activities. Owner Joel Glazer, based in the US, gave the final approval in the process.
