Manchester United must axe Richard Arnold and John Murtough in major clearout, says pundit

Manchester United must fire Richard Arnold in complete club overhaul

Manchester United are facing a challenging season with a string of poor results under manager Erik ten Hag, leading to calls for a complete overhaul of the club.

While there’s been pressure on ten Hag, some argue that simply changing the manager won’t address the underlying issues.

Ralf Rangnick, a former figure at the club, emphasized that Manchester United requires something more than superficial changes; it needs a thorough transformation akin to “open heart surgery” rather than just changing managers and players.

Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Mustoe has joined the chorus for a total revamp at Manchester United, especially if a takeover is on the horizon.

Manchester United must look for a complete overhaul

Mustoe on NBC Sports’ Two Robbies podcast, suggested that the top leadership, including chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough, should be replaced.

“What this club needs is an absolute total strip down, every part of that football club, stripped down, ripped and start again.

Strip it down from the top, a new chief executive, a new director of football, and from that, you have a new recruiting department.

Whether Erik ten Hag could still be the main coach, yeah, maybe he can. but everything around him has to change.”

The uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership situation has created additional challenges, potentially leading to a short-term focus among those responsible for decision-making.

New owners might want to install their own leadership team, further adding to the instability.

Mustoe’s recommendations, including seeking top-notch executives and pursuing a comprehensive overhaul, could be a smart approach to addressing Manchester United’s current issues.

The recent handling of the Mason Greenwood situation by Richard Arnold hasn’t helped his case. Overall, it appears that significant changes are needed to get the club back on track.
