Manchester United star loanee shines in stunning comeback win

Greenwood vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann admitted his side struggled to contain Mason Greenwood during Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Getafe in La Liga.

Griezmann lauded Greenwood’s performance as the forward once again stood out for Getafe in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Despite Diego Simeone’s team taking a 3-1 lead, with Griezmann contributing two goals to equal Luis Aragones as Atletico’s all-time leading scorer, the visitors managed a late comeback at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Despite losing Stefan Savic to a red card in the first half, the hosts couldn’t secure a victory as Getafe scored twice in the dying minutes to salvage a draw.

WHAT GRIEZMANN SAID

Griezmann told DAZN:

“It’s a shame because we had made a great effort with ten. It’s a shame that Savic makes two fouls and gets two yellow cards. In the end you hold on… Greenwood hurt us a lot, we couldn’t stop him at the end of the game and two goals came.”

Greenwood’s performance follows on from another effective showing last time out against Sevilla. The Manchester United loanee bagged a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win for Getafe.

The Liga side have already made it clear they want Greenwood to stay permanently, although Manchester United are not expected to decide on his future until the spring.

What Lies Ahead for Greenwood

Having featured in 11 of Getafe’s 18 La Liga fixtures this season, Greenwood looks to maintain his place in the starting lineup under Jose Bordalas as he seeks to rejuvenate his career with the team.

Even if his tenure with Getafe doesn’t extend, the forward might find himself remaining in La Liga.

Speculation ties La Liga champions Barcelona to the Manchester United loanee and interest from Real Sociedad and Valencia has also been reported regarding the talented forward.
