Manchester United favourites for transfer of ‘boy wonder’

With the shock comeback win against League high-flyers Aston Villa following a historically disastrous season for Manchester United, Erik ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will look to overhaul the squad in a bid to have a better second half of the season.

Manchester United are ready to outspend 36-time Serie A winners Juventus in the race to sign ‘boy wonder’ Javi Guerra in January, according to Marca.

The Red Devils are reportedly prepared to fork out €40m to secure Valencia’s midfielder that can ‘dictate the game’, in the January transfer window.

It is no secret that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to head into 2024 with a new look midfield, following recent transfer interest in Champions League winner Joshua Kimmich and 18-year-old midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.

Javi Guerra has solidified himself as a first-choice midfielder for Valencia this season, having played the vast majority of the team’s La Liga games with 16 appearances overall.

Guerra has also notched up a few goal contributions from midfield, registering three goals and an assist.

Javi Guerra: Player Profile

The Spanish U21 stands at 6’1, physically and athletically capable of winning aerial and ground duels. The midfielder has good awareness, positions his body well to shield to ball, and is able to stop transition attacks with precise tackles.

This season, the 20-year-old has improved significantly and the transfer could offer a long-term solution to Erik ten Hag’s midfielder problem in the January transfer window, with the likes of ageing Casemiro, sub-standard McTominay and Amrabat, and injury-ridden Eriksen all proving insufficient.

Guerra can play as a box-to-box number eight and also a more deep-lying playmaking number six, with his strengths lying in his ability to play accurate long balls and dictate the tempo of the game.

His vast stamina pool and ability to carve out precise passes allow him to flourish in a more box-to-box role, making a difference at both ends of the pitch. ten

The player would be an excellent proposition for Erik ten Hag in the January transfer window, who is also considering a player of a similar profile, Arthur Vermeeren.

The January transfer window will also be an opportunity to get rid of the deadwood in the club, with Erik ten Hag looking to let go of the likes of Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial.
