Manchester United Transfer target was estimated to £100M, with a star player in exchange

Manchester United Transfer Joke: ollie watkins and marcus rashford

Last season, Manchester United were told to pay £100 million and include Marcus Rashford in the deal for a Transfer target.

The idea of Manchester United being required to pay £100 million along with Marcus Rashford for Watkins doesn’t sound so outrageous anymore.

Manchester United Transfer Target this season

Last season, Manchester United were jokingly told, they had to give £100 million and swap Marcus Rashford for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

Surprisingly, this doesn’t sound as crazy now, especially since both English players had very different beginnings in the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Marcus managed only 2 goals in the Premier League this season and found himself on the bench. Meanwhile, Ollie Watkins is thriving with 17 goal contributions in Aston Villa’s dream league run, guided by Unai Emery.

United’s struggles persist in the attacking department.

United has struggled to score in the last four consecutive Premier League games. Eric ten Hag’s tactics in the final third have not yet clicked this season, making United the lowest goal-scoring threat among the top teams in the league.

On the other hand, Aston Villa has been brilliant since Steven Gerrard left the club, and Unai Emery took over at the end of last season. They have been on the rise.

Manchester United’s transfer target from last season, Ollie Watkins, is in brilliant form with 17 goal contributions in the Premier League. Aston Villa currently sits in 3rd place.

Manchester United Transfer joke seems true now

Last season, Manchester United considered Ollie Watkins to ease the scoring load on Rashford.

Despite Rashford’s great form, ex-Villa player Stan Collymore humorously suggested United pay £100m and swap Rashford for Watkins. Collymore jokingly responded that £100m plus Rashford would be appropriate.

Now, securing Watkins could cost United nearly £100m due to his stellar performance and a new five-year contract.

The 27-year-old, back in the England squad, is a likely pick for Euro 2024, making him a premium signing for any interested club.
