Qataris won’t increase £5bn bid and are unmoved by latest Man United takeover pressure tactic

Erik Ten Hag & the glazer family

Nearly a year has passed since the Glazer family, owners of Man United, made it known that the club was up for takeover. However, the situation remains unresolved, leaving fans frustrated.

The Glazers have steadfastly maintained their record-breaking valuation of £6 billion for the club, a figure that potential buyers seem unwilling to meet.

Sheikh Jassim has offered £5 billion to acquire complete ownership of the club, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid focused on the 67 percent ownership stake currently held by the Glazers.

Despite this prolonged negotiation process, the Glazers have not shown any flexibility in their valuation.

In a recent development seen as an attempt to exert pressure and push the negotiations forward, a Qatari delegation publicly declared that they had no intention of increasing their final offer, according to The Times.

Man United takeover new proposal

This comes on the heels of a new proposal from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, offering £1.5 billion for a 25 percent share of the club, which aligns with the Glazers’ valuation.

This move is perceived as an attempt to encourage Sheikh Jassim to re-engage in negotiations, but he has not responded positively.

This situation suggests that the Glazer family might choose to retain ownership and utilize Ratcliffe’s investment in some capacity.

However, it would likely maintain the current status quo at the club, unless there is a longer-term strategy to allow Ratcliffe to gradually take over the business.

In any case, it’s unclear how this ongoing uncertainty benefits Manchester United in the short term, leaving the club and its fans in a state of limbo.
