Red Devils Increase Offer for Andre Onana as Man United Pursue Deal

Andre Onana to Manchester United

Man United have submitted a new offer to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

If Onana were to move to Old Trafford, it would undoubtedly provide Ten Hag with an exceptionally skilled goalkeeper for his second season in charge.

However, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, which may prompt Inter to anticipate a potential bidding war for their prized shot-stopper.

With Ten Hag’s prior experience with Onana during their time at Ajax, the manager is well-acquainted with the player’s abilities.

According to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have submitted a new offer to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Is Andre Onana joining Man United?

In their initial summer move, the Red Devils have successfully acquired the midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea.

The transfer of the England international is expected to require a £55m fee, marking the conclusion of his 18-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Following the acquisition of Mason Mount, Erik ten Hag and the Old Trafford team have shifted their focus towards securing a new goalkeeper, considering that David de Gea is currently a free agent.

While personal terms have recently been agreed between Onana and Manchester United, reaching a mutual agreement on the transfer fee has posed a challenge.

According to reports, Manchester United initially submitted an opening offer of €40m for Onana, but the bid has already been increased.

Sky Sports’ Di Marzio reveals that the Red Devils have “verbally increased” their bid to €45m.

However, it seems that even this higher offer may still fall short of Inter Milan’s demands.

Regarding Onana, here’s what has been mentioned

Given that Onana’s contract with Inter Milan runs until 2027, the club is not compelled to sell and can remain unperturbed.

Additionally, Onana has garnered praise from Mark Goldbridge, who preferred him over Porto’s Diogo Costa, citing his exceptional ball-handling skills as “box office.

FBref data reveals that Onana, known for his preference to play out from the back, displayed fewer long launches than De Gea and Costa in the previous season.

This aspect highlights his potential suitability within Ten Hag’s style of building play from the defensive line.

Notably, even Pep Guardiola, a renowned admirer of Onana’s ball-playing skills, commended the goalkeeper following the Champions League final in Istanbul.

Considering the current scarcity of options, a potential transfer for Onana could be prudent for Manchester United and their counterparts.

However, to secure the goalkeeper’s services, they might need to increase their bid again.
