Ruben Amorim given brutal verdict on Man Utd sack

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United project is already under heavy fire, and the criticism is becoming louder after the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The Portuguese manager was hired less than a year ago to steady the ship, but instead the storm at Old Trafford seems to be getting worse.

The derby loss left United with just four points from their first four matches, their worst start to a league campaign in 33 years.

Despite spending close to £200 million in the summer, Amorim’s team looked second best against Pep Guardiola’s champions.

Former United goalkeeper Ben Foster did not hold back when speaking on his Fozcast podcast. “It’s been rumbling for a long time,” he said.

“Nobody wants to really commit to it [sacking Amorim] but I guarantee you that if they’ve got eight points and they’re still in 14th position after eight games, somebody’s going to have to pull the trigger. It can’t carry on like that.”

His main criticism was aimed at Amorim’s insistence on sticking with a 3-4-3 system, even when results are poor. According to Foster, United’s squad simply does not fit the shape, and forcing it only worsens the situation.

Dave Watson, the former England goalkeeper coach, echoed that view. “I don’t believe he is a top coach, because you have to have a different way [of playing],” he said.

“You’re at the top of the tree in terms of Man United and the Premier League and the opposition coaches are too good for you to be stuck in your ways.”

The stats highlight the gap between Amorim’s past success in Portugal and his struggles in England.

United now face Chelsea at Old Trafford in a game that could turn up the volume on the sack debate. If Amorim cannot find a quick fix, the chants calling for change might soon drown out the usual “Glory, Glory Man United.”
