‘Serious mistakes’: £43m ace has ‘regressed’ since joining Man United

Andre Onana to Manchester United

Since joining Manchester United, the performance of Andre Onana has come under scrutiny, with one former Serie A goalkeeper suggesting that the former Inter Milan player has regressed at Old Trafford.

Out of the 13 shots on target that Onana has faced, ten have ended up in the back of the net, including a notable Leroy Sane strike against Bayern Munich.

While Onana has contributed to United’s build-up play, concerns are growing about his ability to stop shots.

Turci comments on Andre Onana at Man United so far

Former Serie A goalkeeper Turci, now part of AC Milan’s coaching staff, expressed his surprise at Onana’s struggles in Manchester and believes that he has regressed technically.

Turci also suggests that Inter Milan may have made a wise decision by signing Yann Sommer as Onana’s replacement.

“I had the chance to talk to Onana’s coaches last year and I didn’t expect it to perform so well (in Italy),

Now, in Manchester, he is not repeating the same performances and has regressed from a technical point of view. I presume that Inter have made a (good) deal.”

Said Turci.

However, it’s worth noting that even David de Gea had his share of mistakes in the previous season.

Onana has made some remarkable saves, such as denying Bukayo Saka and salvaging points against Nottingham Forest.

Nonetheless, from an Inter Milan perspective, Yann Sommer’s signing is looking like a smart move, as he recently demonstrated his quality in a crucial match against Real Sociedad.

Former Inter midfielder Fausto Pizzi praised Sommer’s performance, emphasizing his focus and quality, while expressing disappointment in Onana’s uncharacteristic mistakes.

Ex-Nerrazzuri midfielder tells Tuttomercatoweb:

“Inter’s defence has conceded very few goals but, yesterday, he was needed. And he responded,

He never gave the feeling of being unfocused. If an answer was needed (about Sommer’s quality), I’d say it arrived yesterday.

Onana, on the other hand, has already made some serious mistakes. Not like him.”

Onana will have the opportunity to redeem himself as Manchester United faces Burnley on Saturday.
