Two Man Utd veterans face uncertain futures amid transfer plans

Manchester United are looking ahead to the next stage of their rebuild, but two of the club’s longest-serving players could be left behind.

Reports (via TEAMtalk) suggest Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are under review as the Red Devils weigh up a defensive overhaul.

Man Utd decided against signing a center-back this past summer, instead putting their focus on fresh attacking options.

Ruben Amorim has plenty of names in his backline, including Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez, and youngster Leny Yoro. But it seems a new defender is already on the agenda for 2026.

Maguire and Shaw in the spotlight

Harry Maguire’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season. The 32-year-old has barely featured so far and is reportedly attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

A lucrative final move could tempt the former captain away, especially with playing time at Old Trafford looking scarce.

Shaw’s case is more complicated. The 30-year-old remains a trusted starter when fit, but his long injury record is no secret.

With his deal running until 2027, United will watch closely to see whether he can maintain his fitness across the campaign. Amorim has leaned on him early this season, but the club’s long-term planning may say otherwise.

Man Utd already eyeing replacements

Several names are being linked as part of the next rebuild step.

Sporting Lisbon duo Zeno Debast and Gonçalo Inacio have reportedly caught the eye, while Brentford’s Nathan Collins and Athletic Bilbao’s Dani Vivian are also on the radar.

Vivian, in particular, has a release clause that makes him an attractive option.

For now, United will keep faith with the squad they have, but the writing could be on the wall for two players who have carried the shirt through highs and lows.

The question is whether both Shaw and Maguire will still be part of the dressing room when the club begins the next chapter.
