Talks between Manchester United officials and Mejbri regarding long-term contract

Hannibal Mejbri is off to a great start this season and succeeded in impressing Ten Hag.

The Tunisian international has managed to establish his position in the first team which might be due to the absence of the newly signed Mason Mount.

Mejbri’s contract is set to expire in 2024 though the club has the right to extend his contract further.

Talks about contract extensions have ramped up in recent weeks because of Mejbri’s impressive form and interest from other clubs, as per 90min.

The young midfielder made his debut in May 2021 but was sent on loan to Birmingham. After returning from Birmingham, Mejbri has been performing exceptionally.

Mejbri scored the consolation goal against Brighton which Manchester United lost miserably. The 20-year-old’s energy and physicality in this game were refreshing additions to a lethargic midfield.

Ten Hag is a ‘fan’ of Mejbri

Mejbri has established himself into Ten Hag’s plan after weeks of impressive performances.

After a hard-fought match against Burnley, Ten Hag described Mejbri’s performance as ‘perfect’.

The presence of Mejbri and new striker Rasmus Hojlund gave Manchester United a pair of pressers willing to counter-attack Burnley.

“The pressing of Rasmus Hojlund and Hannibal, the togetherness, how they start the moments of the pressing, the timing was very good. The togetherness with Bruno and Rashy was very good.”

Ten Hag explained during the post-match interview

“We controlled the game in that spell because they started the pressing so well and once they were beaten, there was a recovery and Hannibal did that very good.”

The Dutch manager is finally relieved after Mejbri’s willingness and passion to play for the Red Devils.
