United to Cut Losses on ‘Disappointing’ World Cup Winner

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane back to Real Madrid

World Cup winner and multiple Champions League winner with Real Madrid, Raphael Varane, is set to finally leave Manchester United, as ten Hag looks to free up wages for signings in January

United to make £20m LOSS on World Cup winner

With United’s worst start to a Premier League season since Pluto was discovered (1930), major changes are needed soon.

This means major incomings and outgoings are expected, with Varane being one such name on the chopping block.

With the Frenchman entering the final six months of his contract next week, ten Hag may look to sell the player on a loss, for just £20m to a club in the Saudi Pro League, as reported by The Sun.

He has also been linked with a shock return to Real Madrid, but the latest reports suggest a likelier move to Saudi or Italy.

Varane is presently the second-highest-earning player at Manchester United, receiving a substantial weekly salary of £340,000.

The sale would be a bid to reduce the burden on the wage budget imposed by several underperforming stars.

This comes amidst an overhaul planned by United’s new owners that sees several names set to leave the club to free up funds to facilitate new signings in January.

Ten Hag’s new style of play

Raphael Varane joined the club at a meagre price (£41m) with an exceptional resume, winning multiple major accolades with Real Madrid and France. However, he has been restricted to only 51 appearances this season.

The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order to fourth-choice, as ten Hag prefers the likes of much-maligned Harry Maguire and 35-year-old Veteran Johnny Evans.

This shocking state of affairs can be explained by ten Hag’s insistence on playing from the back, a style not suited to Varane’s more traditional Centre-Back traits. Another reason would be The Frenchman’s struggle with injuries.

This decision is further vindicated by Harry Maguire winning Player-of-the-Month in November, as he continues his resurgence at the club.
