What Erik ten Hag told Manchester United players in dressing room after Copenhagen loss

Erik Ten Hag on playing style at Manchester United

Manchester United’s recent performance in the Champions League has been disappointing, as they have lost three out of their four group-stage matches and Erik ten Hag still believes that the Red Devils will qualify for the round of 16.

Another loss to Galatasaray in their upcoming game could result in their elimination from the competition.

Despite this, the United manager, Erik ten Hag, remains optimistic that their luck will eventually change, even after suffering their ninth defeat of the season.

In a dramatic match against Copenhagen, United had a 2-0 lead and then a 3-2 lead, but ultimately lost 4-3. This loss places them at the bottom of Group A with two games left to play.

United’s performance was commendable until Marcus Rashford was sent off in the 42nd minute. Even with 10 players, they managed to regain the lead in the second half through Bruno Fernandes.

However, Copenhagen equalized in the 83rd minute and 17-year-old Roony Bardghji scored the winning goal four minutes later.

Erik ten Hag terms it as an unlucky game

Erik ten Hag expressed his disappointment, as United had played well for most of the match but left without any points.

Nevertheless, he emphasized the team’s resilience and belief in their ability to advance to the last 16 of the competition.

He acknowledged the setbacks they have faced this season, such as injuries and unfavorable decisions, but maintained that there is a fighting spirit within the squad.

Ten Hag praised the team’s attitude and unity, noting that they fought together and played well even with 10 players on the field.

He couldn’t find fault with the team’s effort and performance despite the unfortunate outcome.

“This squad is resilient and the whole season so many decisions are against us, so many setbacks for injuries.

Every time there is a spirit, there is a fight and I said to the lads it will turn, one moment in the season it will turn in our favour.

Football is a game of mistakes, I don’t say we did everything right but I take a lot of positives, even with 10 men we are dictating the game. We played very good. We are very disappointed in the end we take nothing from this because it should have been different.

Again, the attitude was great from the lads. They fought as a team, together, all on one page, fought for every yard on the pitch, shoulder for shoulder. So I can’t make any criticism on the team for that.”

In response to a Danish journalist’s suggestion that the result was unfair, Ten Hag agreed, highlighting how United had dominated the game in the initial 25 minutes, leading 2-0, before the red card changed the course of the match.
